The integrated coaching approach

LOOKING AT THE WHOLE PERSON, NOT JUST THE IMMEDIATE CHALLENGE

We don't live our professional and personal lives in separate boxes.

A career decision may be influenced by confidence, financial considerations, family priorities or identity. A leadership challenge may involve communication, emotional intelligence, relationships or stress. Difficulty focusing may be connected to workload, environment, habits, energy or competing demands.

Our values, strengths, beliefs, behaviours and aspirations can influence many different areas of our lives.

We are one person, and the different parts of our lives inevitably influence one another.

This is the foundation of my Integrated Coaching approach.

Rather than approaching a challenge through a single lens or applying a predefined formula, we look at the bigger picture: who you are, how you perceive yourself and your situation, what may be influencing you, what matters to you and where you want to go next.

ONE PERSON. DIFFERENT AREA OF LIFE.

We don't leave who we are at the office door, and we don't leave our professional experiences behind when we go home.

Patterns such as perfectionism, people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, self-doubt or the need for control may show up differently depending on the situation, but they can influence both our professional and personal lives.

Someone who finds it difficult to say no, for example, may take on too much responsibility at work while also struggling to protect their time and energy in their personal life.

Someone with perfectionist tendencies may place extremely high expectations on their professional performance while bringing the same pressure into other areas of life.

This is why Integrated Coaching looks beyond the immediate situation.

As you develop greater awareness of the patterns influencing how you think, respond and behave, you have the opportunity to explore different choices and ways of being.

A shift that begins with a professional challenge may positively influence your personal life — and vice versa.

Looking Beyond the Initial Challenge

We may begin coaching with a very specific question: a career decision, a leadership challenge, a difficult relationship, a lack of confidence, a feeling of being stuck or a goal you want to achieve.

But the initial challenge is not always the whole story.

Through coaching, you may discover a pattern you hadn't previously recognised, a belief influencing your choices, a strength you have been overlooking or a disconnect between what you are pursuing and what actually matters to you.

This is why the coaching journey can evolve.

As your awareness develops, the question you initially brought may change, deepen or become clearer.

Integrated Coaching creates the flexibility to explore what emerges rather than forcing the conversation to remain within one predefined area.

BEYOND DOING: TRANSFORMATIONAL COACHING

Coaching can be very practical. Sometimes you need to make a decision, prepare for a difficult conversation, clarify a goal or determine your next step.

But coaching can also go deeper than simply deciding what to do.

Behind what we do is how we think, perceive, feel, respond and choose to be.

Through reflection and powerful questions, you may become aware of beliefs, assumptions or patterns that have been influencing you without you fully recognising them.

And when your awareness changes, new choices can become possible.

This is where coaching can become transformational.

Transformation does not mean that the coach changes you or tells you how you should think or behave.

The transformation belongs to you.

You may challenge an old belief, recognise a strength you had underestimated, respond differently to a familiar situation or consciously develop a new way of communicating, leading or being.

And because these patterns are not necessarily limited to one part of your life, the awareness you develop through coaching can sometimes have an impact far beyond the challenge that originally brought you there.

REFLECT, PLAN & ELEVATE YOUR GAME

This philosophy sits at the heart of how I approach coaching.

Reflect

Understand where you are, and how you perceive it.

Step back, develop greater awareness and explore the patterns, beliefs, strengths and perspectives that may be influencing your situation.

Plan

Explore where you want to go, and who you could become.

Clarify what matters to you, explore possibilities and translate new awareness into meaningful choices and actions.

Elevate your game

Become, with intention, who you aspire to be.

Move beyond simply doing things differently and consciously develop how you want to respond, communicate, decide, lead and live.

DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES, WHEN USEFUL

Integrated Coaching does not mean using every tool or methodology with every client.

Sometimes the coaching conversation provides everything we need. At other times, an assessment or additional framework can offer a valuable new perspective.

Depending on your goals, I may draw selectively from Emotional Intelligence, behavioural and communication approaches, cognitive biases and limiting beliefs, Nonviolent Communication, NLP and established coaching frameworks.

Self-awareness tools such as EQ-i 2.0®, EQ 360®, DISC, Enneagram, 360 Workplace Feedback and The 6 Dimensions Compass© may also be introduced when they can meaningfully support your journey.

The tools support the coaching conversation. They don't define you or replace it.

YOUR COACHING JOURNEY

Every coaching journey is different.

One-to-one coaching typically takes place over 6 to 12 sessions, online or in person in Singapore, depending on your goals and how the journey evolves.

At the beginning, we clarify what you would like to gain from coaching. Throughout the process, we revisit your goals and progress as new awareness and priorities emerge.

You don't need to wait until something is wrong to benefit from coaching.

You may already be successful and capable while knowing that something could be different, a decision you want to make, a pattern you want to understand, a strength you want to develop or simply greater clarity about where you want to go next.

Coaching isn't about what's wrong. It's about what's next.
